Whitechapel Art Gallery, Whitechapel, East London | £5.6m | Competition 2003 Completion 2008 | with Robbrecht en Daem Architects

The unification of the Whitechapel Art Gallery with the old Whitechapel Public Library next door will create new exhibition, education and hosting spaces. The construction work, now underway, will see the contemporary re-working of the library's public rooms and new connections between the two listed buildings. The philanthropic ideals behind the original buildings will be continued in inspiring new spaces for education and community use.
