Whitechapel Art Gallery, Whitechapel, East London | £5.7m | completed 2009 | with Robbrecht en Daem Architects
The unification of the Whitechapel Art Gallery with the old Whitechapel Public Library next door has created new exhibition, education and hosting spaces. The contemporary re-working of the library's public rooms and new connections between the two listed buildings has established a more diverse set of gallery spaces. The philanthropic ideals behind the original buildings will be continued in inspiring new spaces for education and community use.
